BBQ - Vancouver Restaurants

Cactus Club Cafe (West Vancouver)

Cactus Club is a trendy, fun restaurant chain with outstanding service, cool decor, and great food. I made another visit to Cactus Club in West Vancouver (web site, Park Royal Village, 855 Main Street, West Vancouver, BC, phone, 604-922-1707) and I enjoyed the “Hawaiian tuna poke” (pictured below, $11.50), which their menu describes as, “sashimi grade ahi tuna, prawns, tropical fruit salsa, fresh avocado, macadamia nuts, sesame ginger vinaigrette & crispy wonton chips”. This dish was a refreshing combination of flavors and quite delicious. Cactus Club is also famous for their steaks, seafood, and specialty drinks.

Cactus Club’s West Vancouver location features a live jazz band, the Geoff Peters Trio, playing on selected Tuesday nights. Please call the restaurant to confirm about the live music. (More info: view part 1)

Wild Ginger Restaurant (Tinseltown)

Wild Ginger Restaurant (web site, 604.893.8608, 2015 – 88 West Pender Street, Vancouver, BC) is a spacious, 120 seat restaurant hidden away behind the Tinseltown Mall food court, on the second level of the mall below the movie theatres. The Asian Pacific post writes:

Tantalizing fusion cuisine mixes local flavours with those of the Far East. Fun dishes to try include Kung Pao Power, Sticky Ribs, Mayo Mayo, and Spring Blossom Rolls.”

The menu features a selection of Chinese and Korean fusion dishes, as well as cook-at-your table Korean barbecue. Visit at lunch time for the best deals: a large entree with soup and salad goes for approximately $6.99. At dinner time the average entree price is around $16.00. Pictured below is the “Happy Family” entree ($16.99), which is a tasty mix of choice seafood, meat, and vegetables stir-fried and served in a sweet ginger and garlic sauce.

Seoul House Korean Restaurant

Seoul House Korean Restaurant (map, 1215 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC, phone 604-739-9001) is one of Vancouver’s oldest Korean restaurants, and is still a favorite for many.

The main attraction here is the Korean Barbecue, where you are given raw meat and seafood to cook at the grill at your table. They also offer a buffet on Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 4pm that is reasonably priced (under $15). During the week there are many a-la-carte items to choose from.

We ordered a really fancy dish with jellyfish (pictured below, around $15), as well as some tofu soup with egg (also pictured below, around $10). There were several tasty condiments/side dishes that were also served with the meal, including the bean sprouts, some cooked potato with a brown sugar sauce, and the famous kim-chi spicy cabbage. A large meal for two was around $21 per person.

There is free underground parking accessible at the alley behind the restaurant, off of Alder street.
